The “Journal of Scanning Probe Microscopy” introduced its inaugural issue this October as the only journal dedicated solely to the topic of scanning probe microscopy (SPM.) SPM is one key technology NSNM researchers are using in various experiments.
The journal features peer-reviewed articles and timely information relating to SPM and will assist researchers in fields such as chemistry, physics, engineering and medicine.
NSNM researchers at Ohio University are using SPM technology for imaging and atom manipulation experiments, including capturing an image of the largest nanoscale man-made fractal molecule.
NSNM principal investigator A. R. Smith was an invited contributor to the first issue of the journal with his paper titled “Atomic-Scale Spin-Polarized Scanning Tunneling Microscopy and Atomic Force Microscopy: A Review.” The review provides an overview in the field of SPM of atomically-resolved surface magnetism. In addition, NSNM principal investigator Saw-Wai Hla serves on the editorial board for the new journal. His duties include overseeing the quality of published works, offering advice to the editor and working on journal improvements.
